While Blackbird's official 10th Anniversary blend has yet to hit the humidor, a prelude celebration smoke has arrived, and it has quite the mouthful of a name: Pura Raza de Quisqueya Prensado.

Translated directly to English, pura raza means "purebred," while Quisqueya is the name of a town in the San Pedro de Macorís province that is shared by the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Further translation of the old dialect spoken by the indigenous people of that area reveals that the word Quisqueya means "mother of the earth," or "large land." Nowadays, the term is commonly used as a patriotic word for the Dominican Republic and its cultural heritage, despite also sharing Haitian heritage.

The cigar is a 6″ x 52 box-pressed toro featuring, you guessed it, a purebred stallion on the band. While it may be strange to see a Blackbird blend without some sort of avian species' name scrawled across its brightly colored cigar band, this classy, old-world approach looks right at home on this smoke. The reason why that band (and its stunner of a dressing box) looks so at home is because this cigar features a top-grade Ecuadorian Connecticut-shade wrapper that is of the finest quality.

Artfully crafted at the company's Dominican factory with an undisclosed binder and filler mixture, this rarity is only being rolled to the tune of 500 boxes, with just 10 cigars being encased in each box. In collaboration with Jim Robinson, a Pittsburgh-based retailer who works with Oscar Valladares in his Danli, Honduras factory, Oscar and Jim have developed a new blend known as "Island Jim."

The cigar currently only available in one size, which is named the #2 because it was designed to resemble a #2 pencil. This cigar's tobacco blend hasn't been disclosed, but it offers a medium body and good, strong tobacco flavors. It has juicy fruit, butter, and light pepper flavors.

The Cavalier Genève Project Broadleaf Skywalker is a rich and flavorful cigar featuring a dark, toothy Broadleaf wrapper that delivers deep notes of dark chocolate, espresso, roasted nuts, and earthy spice. The blend combines bold richness with subtle sweetness, creating a complex and satisfying profile from the first draw to the finish.

Nick Melillo, the founder of Foundation Cigar Co., has roots in Connecticut, and thus has a strong connection to tobaccos of this area. Ultimately, this allowed him to find a way to get the best out of the US-bred Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper surrounding this cigar, turning an oily and dark smoking session into one full of notes like black pepper, earth, wood, and bittersweet chocolate.

With roots in cigar history dating back to 1904, Lovely Cigars is a relatively recent boutique brand. They owe their name, which originated in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to a historic Wisconsin line known as Ain't They Lovely, which existed until the 1960s. Through contemporary mixes that honor the bygone era of the brand, they hope to relive previous days. This stick has one of the two blends offered by Lovely for the Bay City cigar, the Connecticut wrapper one.

The Dapper Cigar Co.'s Cubo Sumatra pays homage to the Cubo brand's debut. The Sumatra line, which was blended nearly five years later, draws on a half-decade of additional experimentation with quality Nicaraguan tobaccos. 

This medium-strength cigar has a reddish Ecuadorian wrapper that enclose a Nicaraguan binder and fillers comprised of Nicaraguan and USA Connecticut Broadleaf tobaccos. Created in Estelí, Nicaragua, by the renowned AJ Fernandez, the Viva La Vida Connecticut puts a sophisticated spin on the brash attitude that made the song so popular. Wrapped in a smooth Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, this cigar has a medium-bodied, rich, complex, and unquestionably pleasing character. 

The blend of Nicaraguan binder and fillers behind the creamy shell is hand-selected to preserve the richness, brightness, and distinctive flair that Viva La Vida smokers have come to expect. Piece Unique from Gellis Family Cigars takes its name from the world of Horological references. When famed watch making houses produce a special 1 of 1 piece, it is often referred to as a “Piece Unique”.

Each release of Piece Unique from Gellis Family Cigars will utilize the same methodology, only crafting the interior blend one time. Each bale of tobacco utilized within Piece Unique was hand sourced by Kyle Gellis. From the Grade 1 Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade Wrapper from ASP and marked as Bale #3BW, to each bale of fillers from Nicaragua and Dominican Republic.

The process to complete Piece Unique has been a long one, from start of the process to final ending was a 2 year period to source these tobaccos and get the blend to define the vision that was set for it.

Packaged in piano finished boxes of lined with Spanish Cedar of 15 cigars, only 500 boxes of this blend were crafted, all of which were aged for a full year in Spanish Cedar after rolling.

The Last Tsar is a cigar that pays homage to Emperor (Tsar) Nicholas II, who was the final monarch of Russia.

The tobacco leaf used as the wrapper for The Last Tsar is also used for the Caldwell Eastern Standard. The wrapper in The Last Tsar is processed differently and aged for a little longer. Caldwell said that Carbonell tobacco is a part of the blend, but the rest is not disclosed. 

You can feel notes of natural tobacco, pepper (mostly white, but some black), and tangerine-like citrus.
