Rocky Patel Decade (Lonsdale)

A very enjoyable Sumatran cigar that stacks flavors and aromatics with care until a medium-full finish is achieved. This is one of those gradual, slow-burning sorts of sticks, where transitions come slowly and stir the senses with aromatics more than flavor half the time.
Sensationally smooth, and quite a bit lighter and more floral than other Sumatran cigars, Rocky Patel's first stab at an anniversary stick is as smooth as it is clean-tasting. Bitterness only comes when darker cocoa tastes are detected, and it is both welcoming and balanced. Even when the stick started growing spicy at times in the final third and parting puffs, it never felt like the blend was raging out of control.
CAO Flathead V554 Camshaft (Robusto)

This is one solid, oily, full-flavored smoke, ya'll. It's got all of the brawny broadleaf backbone to keep traditional fans of the leaf enamored, and just enough cleanliness and creativity to keep those of us who aren't hardcore into the varietal appeased. It's also not nearly as strong as it is full-bodied and full-flavored. Hence us labeling this cigar as medium-full in strength.
I found the final third to be especially satisfying, with the return of wood tannins and that milky, salted mixed nut note really driving what this blend is all about home. Therefore, I can foresee all manner of full-flavor maduro smoker snatching this stick up, and not just broadleaf fanatics. It strikes a lot of the right notes at just the right time, as well as in a few unexpected areas, and remains true to its live fast and go hard attitude.
Casdagli Brothers of the Sabre Epicurist

Unexpectedly aromatic blends such as this are what make reviewing cigars for a living so enjoyable. With its Grade-A construction and burn, refined medium cigar flavor profiles, and unique formatting, the Epicurist has instantly become one of the more memorable smokes I have encountered all year.
The blend's fantastic figurado form only adds value to the equation, as it limits the amount of smoke pulled and thus prevents overheating from occurring much of the time. It also looks awesome in the humidor, as well as in hand, and I really dig the band and backstory that came with this specialty size from 2024. I also find it fascinating that the robusto version features filler leaves primed from higher up on the plant for a bolder smoking experience, whereas the figurado receives milder primings from the center of the stalk.
Crafting a cigar that can remain medium in flavor, but intensely full in aroma, is not always easy, and for the most part, Casdagli Cigars has nailed it with this limited run diadema.
La Palina Goldie Laguito Especial (Lonsdale)

Goldie is a class act that benefits from a little bit of extra aging and is a smoke that has been well-planned and properly produced. Smooth and steady, with a light, "golden" energy and fantastic habano flavors make this one very pleasant cigar.
Black and white pepper, and some spiced cinnamon heat, followed by a little bit of brown sugar and a toasty, buttery Ritz cracker note mark your starting point with this smoke. But, within no time, those flavors of buttery Ritz crackers turn to whole grain cereal and honey-coated walnuts, and that rush of dried hay returns. Minuscule amounts of clove and nutmeg are also present, which, when blended with the above, turn Goldie into a chewy, delicately spiced cigar.
The golden, honey-colored Ecuadorian habano wrapper does a bang-up job of keeping body and strength on the lower end of medium, allowing flavors to gradually build toward dead-center medium as the first half transitions.
Speaking of flavor transitions, there really aren't that many to be detected at this point. Just a gentle shift from one flavor to another at times, with some notes staying put and opting for either an increase in intensity or a cake-like, bready sweetness. What does become detectable as you go through, is the medio tiempo leaf inside, which cranks up the spiciness of the cigar in minute but notable increments.

Caldwell Pepper Cream Soda 10th Anniversary

Nuttier, oilier, and a few ticks stronger than the regular version, Caldwell's 10th Anniversary salute to Pepper Cream Soda punches the clock and gets right to work on creating a solid smoking experience. Does it lean a bit heavy on the pepper? Yes. Are the upticks in strength and spiciness intense at times? For sure. But it's nothing the average cigar smoker cannot handle, or in many cases, will turn their nose up to.
Ah, and speaking of the nose, I must say that this rarity really leans on the nutty, floral aromatics. It also tastes just like a cream soda in certain spots, a bright, citrusy 7-Up in others, and a peppery mixed nut medley at times, too. Combine this with an ideal draw and a really smooth finish, and you are looking at what might be one of the best B-side rarities we have ever scored here at Klaro.
Rojas Street Tacos Cinco de Mayo Limited Edition

The savory yet sweet taste of horchata and its soothing, malted milkiness. Cypress and cedar add a short-throw shift toward a resinous primary cigar flavor profile, and as coriander and clove kick in, out comes a small sliver of salted skirt steak covered in a red mole marinade. Mmmm.... Street Tacos...
Floral almost to the point of potpourri, the heat of the cigar slowly grows more relaxed with every retrohale, and for much of the first half, does not change in profile. I like this immensely, as the taste of authentic Latin flair fills my nose and mouth. So many spices and dark sensations. I think next time around, I should be eating something with this cigar.
Rojas' boncheros and torcedores nail it again with the first hour's draw, ash, and burn building without waver. Mixed with the flavors and aromas listed prior, things hit a heavy medium immediately once the second third strikes, where they maintain their hold until the very end.
