Aladino Goes Ape With New Gorbusto Cigars Rebrand!

After barely more than a year on the market, Aladino has pulled the plug on its Camp Aladino Gorbusto line, only to bring it back as a trio of tree-swingers.

Now referred to simply as Gorbusto by Aladino, this 4½″ x 60 trifecta does away with the Cameroon, Corojo, and Maduro designations, and ushers in a marketing campaign that clearly states that each of these blends is “Defined by Character.”

Essentially, the blends are still the same, so that means you are still getting 100% Honduran tobacco grown on the JRE Tobacco Farm and Aladino-grade factory production. You are just getting some very different packaging, cigar bands, and brand language. Personally, I feel that this was a wise decision, as the original Camp Aladino Gorbusto bands were pretty bland, and reminded me of the drapes in my grandmother's house when I was a kid.

That said, this is an incredibly daring marketing move for what is widely considered to be one of the more old-school cigar makers in Honduras. This risky rebrand allows the smoker to decide for themselves which blend suits their palate best, based purely upon the taste of the cigars themselves, and personal preference when it comes to members of the primate family.

So, without further ado, let's meet the mascots for the "new" Aladino Gorbusto line...

"Refined depth. Quiet complexity." Observant and deliberate, Chimp prefers one meaningful conversation over the noise of a crowd. His cigar rewards patience — a refined, complex smoke that unfolds slowly, much like his thinking.

"Creative character. Unexpected notes.” Expressive and free-spirited, Orang is the energy in the room. His cigar is as unexpected as he is: creative in flavor, bold in character, and unlike anything else in the lineup.

Although Aladino is not disclosing which Camp Aladino Gorbusto blend matches up with its rebranded Gorbusto variant, they did tell us that the blends are still the same. Which leaves us with the following thoughts...

While Gori clearly is the Camp Aladino Gorbusto Maduro reincarnate, Chimp and Orang are a toss-up due to their wrappers appearing so similar in hue. However, spark up one of these stubby smokes, and it will become obvious that Orang is the Camp Aladino Gorbusto Corojo and Chimp is the Cameroon Camp Aladino Gorbusto.

But for many of us, none of that really matters. As long as there's a member of the primate family printed on the band of the cigar and the smoke tastes and smells superb, we're happy. Which is precisely what Aladino was aiming for when it decided to rebrand this beastly little cigar line after just one year on the market.
