Ferio Tego "Timeless Prestige" Review: A Classy Cigar Blend Rolling in Refinement That Hits All the High Notes

Originally rolled beneath the Nat Sherman blanket operation, but now produced in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaragua, Ferio Tego has continued to grow by leaps and bounds since its launch in 2021. Highly revered within the cigar community for its class and unrelenting dedication to quality craftsmanship, this cigar start-up has been the recipient of numerous accolades in the past five years, with this blend being one of the company's core products.

Co-founded by trained jazz musician and former Davidoff executive, Michael Herklots, and his former business colleague, Brendan Scott, Ferio Tego takes a classy, old-world approach to blending and branding cigars. Take the Ferio Tego Timeless Prestige, for instance. A snazzy-looking Honduran, Dominican, and Nicaraguan concoction that is marketed for being built around a "...complex, new world blend of six tobaccos from three countries."

While there are far more exclusive, higher-end blends within the company's portfolio, this "entry level" cigar from Ferio Tego retains an impressive 4.8/5 star rating from our Klaro Members and remains a mainstay in the Klaro Collection. And thus, we feel that it is probably best to start with the basics, smoke and review this blend first, and then work our way up from there. For smoking a Ferio Tego is never about arriving, but rather about the voyage. So, let's get to it, shall we?

Unlit Impressions

 Ferio Tego "Timeless Prestige" Review

Auburn red in color and rocking a healthy amount of oil, along with a few sharp veins, the Honduran outer leaf on this cigar looks really good from multiple angles. Traditional scents of cedar and leather, followed by a moderate amount of Honduran soil and the funk that comes with it, blanket much of the barrel. Additional sniffs reveal a ripe apple butter smell, accompanied by some fermented hay and the crunchy baked scent of toasted points.

Construction seems to be solid, save for a bit of a squishy-feeling foot, and the vintage brass lower banding and banana yellow Timeless top band work well alongside one another. In Churchill format, the cigar seems all the more timeless indeed, and it makes me think of something that Sir Winston Churchill would indeed puff on occasion.

Now, regarding that foot. I must say that this blend's internals smell downright delightful. There is also a large amount of butter cookies here, along with the tart and sweet smell of craisins and dried oats. Scents gradually grow tangier and sweeter the more you sniff, so take your time and give your olfactory senses a treat by exploring that end of the cigar in detail.

Cold pulls are somewhat apple-like as well, but this time around, it is more of a dry cider note. Equally dry are the cedar notes, along with the slight touches of leather and soil. These unlit pulls don't provide much in the way of flavor beyond this, though, so I snag a quick light to see what Ferio Tego has in store.

Initial Smoke

Ferio Tego "Timeless Prestige" Review Salt and cedar, dried apple, roasted nuts, and a floral, refined finish with a brown sugar sweetness adding to its overall length are the appealing touchpoints in the first few minutes of this 7-inch-long stick. There is a slight sharpness to both my review cigar and the sample stick I smoked in this section, which thankfully fades out after a while. I also notice that the draw is a touch tight on both cigars, causing me to take a double-pull to produce the level of smoke that I desire.

1st Half

 Ferio Tego "Timeless Prestige" Review

As I stated on camera, the first third of this cigar is both simple and effective in its ability to provide inviting cigar flavor profiles and enticing aromatics. Roasted pecans and dried apple are the two standout flavors detected in both cigars, with a cool, creamy smoke texture scoring major points. Aftertastes are equal parts tangy and toasty, and there is this overall feeling of familiarity to the whole experience that is very comforting and nostalgic. Dare I say, timeless?

Burn your way into the second third, and you will find a perfectly rounded cone resting beneath a sharply formed white ash. Flavors of nutmeg and bright baking spices, Spanish cedar, and that classic Honduran wrapper mixture of loamy clay topsoil and leather all unfold in languid layers of medium-bodied smoke.

2nd Half

Ferio Tego "Timeless Prestige" Review The remainder of the second third holds fast to everything just mentioned, but it also takes those nutty, creamy flavors from earlier, and amps them up with a boost of brown sugar and spiced cider. This isn't as much of a shot in the arm as it is a modification to existing flavors, and retrohales pick up on it far faster and more effectively than the tongue's taste buds.

It isn't until the final third of the cigar that a really sizable transition occurs, at which point the blend leans into floral aromas and flavors of herbal spiced tea. As a routine tea drinker, Celestial Seasonings' "Red Zinger" comes to mind first, with its mixture of hibiscus, peppermint, wild cherry bark, rosehips, lemongrass, and orange peel. On the nose, however, I detect more of a rose water aromatic via retrohale, and as the cedar smells build, along comes a bit of spiciness, and the leather gets oilier beneath that roasted nutty top note.

Parting Puffs

Ferio Tego "Timeless Prestige" Review

The last section of this blend is a near carbon copy of the final third in many ways. The only difference is that all of the flavors and aromatics have grown a good bit bolder and longer-lasting, with the floral aromas on retrohale being particularly appetizing. I also find that the herb tea flavors within the cigar, as well as the sweetness of the tobacco, turn a touch dry. All told, this is still a mighty fine, if somewhat similar, finish to an outstanding cigar.

Ash / Burn / Smoke / Draw

 Ferio Tego "Timeless Prestige" Review

Outside of needing a double puff every now and then to generate additional smoke, the overall performance found with the Timeless Prestige Churchill was impressively well-polished. The ash in particular was very impressive, what with its cool and controlled carbon ring, considerable hold, and stark white color. The cone that lay beneath was always perfectly rounded, and the medium-bodied quality of the smoke that was produced was equally refined each time.

Final Thoughts

Genuine in its approach within all areas of that 7-inch-long barrel, the Churchill version of Ferio Tego's Timeless Prestige is both appropriately named and properly blended and built. The whole experience exudes sophistication and classic charm, without feeling overly pompous or pretentious in any way. It's the after-work cigar for those wanting something medium but are feeling something a little more lavish without going too high-dollar.

Equal parts timeless and prestigious, burn quality, aromatics, and flavor advancements all felt metered, well-played, and purposeful. From the ultra-clean combustion and fantastic floral aromatics to the traditional Honduran wrapper notes that shifted between apple and pecan, before building in leather, cedar, and loam, the entire cigar is a joy to smoke.

This is the sort of cigar that isn't trying to be anything more or less than it already is, and that kind of self-confidence is inspiring. Craftsmanship, control, and measured amounts of flavor and power all provide an impressive smoking session with this blend every time, with the Churchill vitola being particularly good. It's the lazy afternoon or late-night jazz bar cigar incarnate, and it now has me hankering to try some of the other blends in the Ferio Tego portfolio.
