Hiram & Solomon Cigars Builds a New Base & Joins the Klaro Collection

Say hello to one of the newest additions to the Klaro collection: Hiram & Solomon Cigars.

While the boutique brand has been around for a decade, recent changes in its internal operations have moved the company back to its roots. First started in the Dominican Republic, production was eventually moved to Nicaragua, only for operations to recently return to the Dominican, with PDR Cigars now handling all production needs.

Overseen and operated by WB Kashouty and his wife Romy, who is also a serious cigar enthusiast, Hiram & Solomon Cigars has focused on growing its presence not only in North America but in the international community. For as the two are quick to proclaim, Hiram & Solomon Cigars are not meant for Freemasons alone but are intended to be savored by everyone.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with The Freemason Brotherhood, here is a quick little rundown courtesy of a quick AI synopsis.

"Freemasonry, also known as Masonry, is the world's oldest fraternal organization, with roots tracing back to medieval stonemasons and cathedral builders. It's a social and philanthropic organization that emphasizes ethical development, moral values, and social responsibility. While not a secret society in the traditional sense, Freemasonry does have its own rituals, symbols, and modes of recognition like handshakes and passwords."

As the story goes, Hiram & Solomon was founded around creating cigars based upon the Freemason way of life. Hence the square and compass, emblazoning the band and each box. In true fashion, each Hiram & Solomon cigar is named after a rank or degree in the Freemason hierarchy, with the Entered Apprentice being the first stage.

Tobacco Nerd Note: In true Freemason philanthropic form, Hiram & Solomon Cigars donates part of its sales profits to various Masonic and non-Masonic community charity events.

This "entry-level" cigar blend may have a light to medium body profile and a golden Connecticut Shade leaf out of Honduras, but it houses some surprises inside. In an unorthodox move, the cigar features a binder that is the exact same type of shade leaf as the wrapper, for double the silky smoking pleasure. This is practically unheard of when it comes to Connecticut Shade cigars, and makes for a very intriguing introductory smoke.

As for the internal mix, you can find tobacco from the volcanic island of Ometepe down in Nicaragua inside, along with some potent Pennsylvania leaf, and a pinch of an exceedingly rare strain from Paraguay. Together, with the double Connecticut Shade outer leaves, the blend intensifies while still providing a clean finish along with creamy, smooth smoke and sweet overtones accented by white pepper and cinnamon.

Hiram & Solomon Fellow Craft

Hiram & Solomon Fellow Craft

To construct Fellow Craft Hiram & Solomon utilized a variety of Nicaraguan-grown Habano long fillers, including leaf grown in the Jalapa region, Ometepe island, and even some stronger Ligero Habano out of Estelí. Once combined, these leaves produce a complex profile that is further accentuated by an herbal Indonesian-grown Sumatran binder.

The Nicaraguan Habano Oscuro wrapper, however, might as well have been made out of pure milk chocolate. One can expect strong scents of leather, cedar, and dried fruits, along with cracks of black pepper and an earthy, satisfying finish with this one. The end result is a medium-to-full bodied smoke that is extremely smooth but also deeply layered.

The Travelling Man is one of the most popular cigars in the Hiram & Solomon premium cigar line. An oily Sumatran wrapper from the Indonesian islands expertly encases this medium bodied blend, with long-fillers from the Dominican Republic, as well as Habano leaf from the Jalapa and Ometepe regions balancing out the Brazilian strength of some Arapiraca tobacco additions.

The heavy mouthfeel of the smoke is known for producing a sweet, strong scent thanks to the use of an additional Indonesian tobacco leaf serving as a binder. This results in a faint coffee and spiced chai tea flavor and a creamy texture that blends beautifully with hints of cocoa, leather, and rainforest soil.
