St. Patrick's Day is so much more than slammin' Irish Car Bombs with your mates during the wee early hours between kegs n' eggs and the annual Dropkick Murphys mosh pit free-for-all.
For us cigar smokers, it's a time of celebration and relaxation, where a pint of the good stuff or a nip of single malt Irish whiskey can be paired with an appropriate premium cigar blend. Sure, you could do this any other given day of the year, but to do so on St. Patrick's Day just feels... proper.
So to make sure that everyone feels a wee bit Irish on this special holiday, Alec Bradley has released 2024 editions of its "Filthy Hooligan" and "Filthy Hooligan Shamrock" party cigars.
Widely regarded as the most appropriately-themed cigars of all time, these barber pole wrapped blends are only available once a year via a limited production run and are categorized under Alec Bradley's "Black Market" line of cigars. Both blends might be the same year after year, but the vintage and crop harvest do vary like many other cigars.
While the original "Filthy Hooligan" has been around for well over a decade by this point, and still relies upon a combo of Honduran candela and Nicaraguan habano oscuro for its spiraling wrapper, the "Filthy Hooligan Shamrock" is a bit of a newer cigar blend. This stick is even more festive-looking and comes clad in a trio of wrapper leaves, with a shade-grown habano claro shade leaf adding that additional stripe.
As with previous releases, both blends are rolled down in Danlí, Honduras, and turn toward a Sumatran binder out of Ecuador to fondle a mixed long-filler duo from Honduras and Panama.
Only offered in a 6" x 50 toro, with just 5,000 boxes being produced for St. Patrick's Day 2024, these two "Hooligans" are a must-have for holiday shenanigans, or for comparing with a previous year's vintage.
"With their bright green wrappers and fresh herbal notes, these candela smokes offer a great change of pace at a time when spring’s on everyone’s mind."—Bradley Rubin of Alec Bradley
