Aging Room "Quattro F55 Original Maestro" Review: Built for Boxing

When I first started at Klaro back in the spring of 2022, I had no idea that I would be placed in charge of reviewing cigars. I also had no idea that I would be handling the vast majority of the written content for the website.

But as it became increasingly apparent that I would be reviewing more and more cigars as time went by, I started to think of our portfolio, and what I had never tried before.

While there are a plethora of cigars out there that I have yet to try (or ever will get to try), there was one stick in particular that caught my interest from day one.

It was the Quattro F55 Original by Aging Room. A box-pressed torpedo with an impressive 95 rating from Cigar Aficionado, and a #2 ranking on the publication's website back in 2013.

So while it may have taken me a minute to get around to smoking this particular premium cigar blend, I have no regrets in waiting for the opportune moment to fire one up for review. And there's a really good reason for this...

Unlit Impressions

Aging Room Quattro F55 Maestro

Outside of being boxed-pressed and torpedo tipped, the Maestro vitola of the Quattro F55 is fairly unremarkable looking.

Its Indonesian Sumatran wrapper is rough and rugged, with veins and discoloration in abundance, and the milk cocoa banding just blends in too well to stand out. Hell, even the gold lettering even struggles to make a statement next to all of that shiny tobacco plume collecting on the surface.

Luckily, the nose provides a far more exciting experience, with earthy Sumatran spices and rich cedar scents filling the void. Cold pulls are almost identical but with a bit of vanilla and pithy orange peel added in, along with some sun-grown funk in the trunk as well.

Initial Smoke

Milder than expected, yet flavorful and smooth as can be, the start to the Quattro F55 is pleasantly refined. Its milky, spiced tea-like taste reminds me a bit of a mango lassi, but with a shot of nutty amaretto thrown into the mix.

1st Half

Aging Room Quattro F55 Maestro

As the cigar burns, you get more of a graham-cracker note. This familiar flavor is supported by vanilla and orange tastes and some Sumatran spice that edges closer to funky as the center combusts.

A very nice transition for those who favor more medium-full flavors, without all of the strength of heavier tobacco strains.

2nd Half

Retrohales within the second half add more complexity to the experience. It's still very much the same cigar flavor profile as before but in a bit more of a bold, Sumatran tea-tasting format. Bring on the earthen funk too, with darker notes of soil, and freshly bailed hay being in abundance.

Parting Puffs

Aging Room Quattro F55 Maestro

There is very little cedar to be detected within this blend until the arrival of the final third, and deeper into parting puffs. You probably won't pick up on it so much if you're in search of sappy, sweet cedar notes though, for this is far more of a dry-boxed humidor aromatic than anything.

The trick here is to stick with those retrohales whenever possible and try to focus on any flavors that can overpower that Indonesian soil taste.

Ash / Burn / Smoke / Draw

Aging Room Quattro F55 Maestro

While the burn line on this cigar did waver at times, it corrected itself almost every time, requiring only one touch-up along the way. Although the draw and smoke that formed were respectable, the ash was a bit discolored here and there, and the smoke itself did tend to run a bit too hot as the cigar combusted.

Final Thoughts

Aging Room Quattro F55 Maestro

It's not often that you come across a Sumatran-wrapped cigar repping tobacco straight from Indonesia. Even rarer is a cigar with a rating and reviews as high as those lauded upon Aging Room's Quattro F55 Original.

So while I was a little let down by its lack of sweetness and unsurprising transitions, there was no denying the smoothness and full flavor of the cigar blend itself.

If you've never had authentic Indonesian Sumatran tobacco, and are cool with a medium-full smoking experience, then Aging Room Quattro F55 Original should definitely be on your list of stogies to sample at some point.

I smoked some of the original F55’s back in 2013. WOW! I always remembered that smoking experience as that cigar brand going somewhere & it did. #2 Cigar of the year etc. However: After all of those years passed until now ( 1-10-24 ) I just smoked another from a box I STOLE from a leading cigar seller ($79.00 + a Free quad lighter for a box of 20 Robustos ) my opinion has somewhat changed. It’s still a decent cigar but I think the reason for all of the excitement in 2013 was the original aged Sumatra leaves acquired in that emergency buyout . If anyone doesn’t know about that transaction — Research it. I, being a Self Proclaimed Afficianado rate it 90 and put it in the $8.00 – $9.00 price range. (MSRP) Happy Puffing! SHISHO.
